Funway Incursion and valentines.

I know I'm a day late, but happy day of love and romance! My small contribution is kittens and bad puns.

Also in the spirit of Valentine's Day, I am loving this cover of La-La Means I Love You by The Delfonics. While the original version is definitely in the running for my all-time favourite slow jam ever, this one features a Filipino boy wonder. I kind of hope I get to hear it on the dancefloor sometime soon.

Speaking of dancefloor jams, Eric started a project called Funway Incursion to share a few of his dj edits. Take a second to check out his blog and soundcloud - you should be checking them for the music, of course, but as an aside, the banner on his blog and his avatar on both are  snaps I took with a disposable camera last spring. They were taken during a park trip - playing tennis, skipping rope (accidentally child-sized but that didn't stop us) and general silliness in the sun. Spring! I can't wait for you to come back.

P.S. - Wed By Hand was a ton of fun! So many great vendors and lovely people. If you were there, you know what I'm talking about. If not, don't worry. I'll post pictures sometime soon.

Wed by Hand

Oh hi! It's been a while, I know. January is such a hermiting month for me. But it's February now, and I have exciting February news: Lamb Rabbit will be at Wed By Hand this coming Sunday, February 6.

Wed By Hand is a local wedding show in its second year running produced by my lovely friends Robin Sidhu and Krista Leben of Urbanite Jewelry. It highlights lots of local handmade, DIY and eco-friendly alternatives to the big commercial guys, and I am so happy that Lamb Rabbit will be taking part.

I love seeing Lamb Rabbit at weddings. Maybe I'm just tooting my own horn, but I feel like Lamb Rabbit pieces are all so personal, unique and heartfelt that each one seems practically custom made to be a part of someone's super special day.

Lamb Rabbit robin's nest necklace wedding sighting. Doesn't she look so incredibly beautiful?

This piece was custom made for a beautiful bride's beach wedding on Cape Breton. Natural coral, peach aventurine, rose quartz and goldstone, wrapped and strung from 14 karat gold fill.

And as if that wasn't special enough, her sister-to-be was so in love with it that she wound up wearing it for her own lovely PEI farmhouse wedding. I don't think I could have felt any more moved. (I'm sorry the photos or so low-res! They're still so pretty, I had to share.)

If you have any shots of Lamb Rabbit at weddings or just out at large in the world, I would be ever so grateful if you sent them my way! It always brightens my day.

Jamie Bennett

I've kept a tab of Toronto illustrator Jamie Bennett's portfolio open in my browser for nearly two weeks straight now. Needless to say I am seriously loving some of her work.

Quilting date.

Eric's mom gave us a luxurious duvet for christmas, which means I need to get my butt into gear and finish the quilt duvet cover I've been working on (very infrequently, in my defence) since the summer. I know I'll love it when it's finished, I just need to keep at it.

The beginnings of my friend Tania's mid-century modern homes quilt look amazing, too. I can't wait to see the finished product!

Also, this is important: I got that sparkly "Rachel" ruler from my mother in, oh, probably the third grade. I don't know how I still have it, but I do. Don't judge me, guys!

Hope everyone's new years so far are going splendidly.

Bought a Canon EOS Rebel T1i.

Slowly figuring it out.

Eric and the cats are being terribly good sports about it so far.

Holiday wrap-up

Sorry for falling off the blogging boat yet again! Things have been December hectic. You know December hectic. Seriously, though. Post-craft sale at Raw Sugar (p.s. thanks for coming out, everyone) has been non-stop crazy work. Despite churning out more jewellery than I thought humanly possible, I am somehow almost sold out of everything. I don't know how it happened, but thank you to everyone for all the kindness and support you've shown Lamb Rabbit! I'm so far beyond feeling grateful that I'm not sure there's even a word for it.

I have a few LR-focused post-xmas/new years plans that I'm pretty excited about. Some are top secret, but I'll spill the beans on one today - I've decided to invest in a real-deal digital SLR come boxing day with some of my earnings. Right now I have a fancy point-and-shoot that's maybe 5 or 6 years old, but it's been broken for nearly a year, and I've been feeling restless and wanting to upgrade anyways. I can't wait to be able to take beautiful pictures of my jewellery (and of the world, of course!) without running out of film or having to borrow a camera that I'm completely unfamiliar with. It's not that I no longer derive a certain kind of joy from developing a mystery roll of film from a disposable camera. It's just that sometimes, I need a little bit more. Adventures, get ready to be CHRONICLED.

In the meantime, I plan on finishing up the last of my jewellery orders and my crafting/gift-making, and getting some serious seasonal movie-watching under my belt.

Something tells me

You'll be into something good if you make it out to the holiday craft fairs at Raw Sugar and Shanghai tomorrow.

I only have two Wolf Queen earrings left from my original batch, so I've made a whole new run of them in preparation for Raw Sugar tomorrow. I can't believe they went so fast! It's so much fun making new ones, though. Since they're all one of a kind I get to figure out exactly which feathers I want to go with which stones, every time around. Somehow, each and every single time, I wind up falling in love with them and wanting to keep them all.

So maybe if you are in Ottawa's little chinatown tomorrow, and you decide to come for a visit, try to stop by earlier as opposed to later, because I don't quite trust myself not to cave in and take a bunch of them off the table to keep to myself.

Raw Sug's runs from noon til 4 pm, and Shang's, from 10 to 3.
